Throughout the year we will be inviting local & regional printers to come in to the C.C. Stern Type Foundry during our monthly museum open hours to work with our freshly cast type and ornaments. From 11am-3pm on January 20th, Jessica Spring will be working to design and print a notecard using our Craftsman or Challenge printing presses.
Springtide Press was established in Tacoma, Washington in 1999. As proprietor, Jessica produces artists books, broadsides and ephemera in small editions primarily using hand set type. She also collaborates with other artists frequently, in her studio and in the community. Most recently, Spring released a book based on the Dead Feminist series of broadsides that she and illustrator Chandler O’Leary worked on for nearly a decade. Many will know her as a co-organizer of the Tacoma Wayzgoose, held annually at King’s Books, and others as an educator through her position at Pacific Lutheran University. Jessica is also the creator of Daredevil Furniture, a clever and useful way to set your type in daring directions. You can watch a short video of Jessica Spring in her shop here.
We’ll have a display up featuring some recent work from Springtide Press, as well as information about the Elliott Press and the Thorniley Collection at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, where Jessica teaches.
Come by to talk to her about her process and see what she creates!
