Mark your calendars, the Type Jam will happen Monday, November 6th. This Jam will feature Charles Overbeck of Eberhardt Press. We’ll have a round table style discussion about his recently published book: “The Tramp Printers: Forgotten Trails of the Traveling Typographers.” The book focuses on the sometimes colorful and often highly skilled “scholarly hobo” printers of the hot metal type era who spread their craft-tricks-of-the-trade and news while traveling and picking up temporary gigs at print shops. The book is a gem – it’s thoroughly researched and beautifully printed. While Charles is at the foundry, we’ll also ask him about that “hobo printer tag” written in sharpie marker on one of the foundry’s proof presses.
Type Jam Night is an informal gathering hosted by the C.C. Stern Type Foundry. Its purpose is to bring printers together to share recent work composed of metal type and ornamentation and/or to discuss “analog” printing that inspires them.
Type Jam Nights are free and open to the public. Please RSVP so we can be sure to have a chair for you.
