Final conference logistics

Posted on Aug 12, 2012

The ATF Conference is only a few days away, and we’re really excited to have you all gathered here in Portland! We hope the presentations, social events, technical sessions & general fellowship will be inspiring.

In addition, we will be holding two public events which involve local craftspeople: The screening of Linotype: The Film, which will be held Thursday evening at one of our institutions, the McMenamin’s Kennedy School, and also the Friday night social at the C.C. Stern Type Foundry. In both cases, we will be joined for meet & greet style events by area practitioners of the trade, line casters on Thursday night and commercial monotype casters & printers on Friday night. Brandon Goodwin, one of the Linotype: The Film creators, will be in attendance Thursday evening for Q&A.

Here are a few logistics as you make your way to Portland:

Transportation Upon Arrival
Red Lion Hotel Shuttle : Call the hotel when you land at the airport and they’ll tell you when and where to meet the next shuttle. Their number is 503-283-4466.

Light Rail : The MAX does not go directly to the Red Lion Hotel from the airport. However if you are not staying at the Red Lion, it’s possible to take the MAX light rail downtown, to airport area hotels or to the convention center area directly from the airport for less than $3. Trains leave from the lower level of the airport and are well marked.

Taxi : Taxis are available from the lower level of the airport or from the Union Station Train Depot. You do not need to call a taxi, they will queue and wait for passengers.

Hotel Hospitality Room & Registration
The ATF Hospitality Room is Presidential Suite #206. Please join us from 6-9pm on Wednesday to pick up your Welcome Kits and socialize. If you miss us Wednesday night, join us Thursday morning as early as 8am at the Timberline Rooms on the lower level. We’ll have your Welcome Kits to go with coffee & continental breakfast.

Keepsakes
We had recommended that you produce up to 70 keepsakes. As of today, we have 54 registrants, so if you are able to bring or send 60 pieces that will suffice. If you need to send these or any other last minute items, ship to Stumptown Printers/2293 N Interstate Ave/Portland, OR 97227. Please ship them to arrive by Wednesday, August 15th. We will bring all items to the Hospitality Room at the Red Lion for pick up or for dissemination.

If you have any additional questions, you can reach us through the contact form on this site.

We’re excited to see you and hear about what everyone has been up to since we last met two years ago!

Regards,
The C.C. Stern Type Foundry
